Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill was arrested for domestic violence following an alleged physical altercation with his brother.

In July of this year, Hill competed in a friendly basketball game among active and retired UFC fighters during International Fight Week. Unfortunately, ‘Sweet Dreams’ suffered a ruptured Achilles while playing, leading to him vacating his 205-pound title and beginning a lengthy recovery process.

Hill has now encountered another setback to his Octagon return. Earlier today, TMZ revealed the 32-year-old was arrested and booked into the Kent County jail for domestic violence. Further controversy was brought to the situation when TMZ broke the news with the following headline on social media:

“Ex-UFC Champion Jamahal Hill Arrested For Domestic Violence”

Fans claimed that the headline above suggested that Jamahal Hill was arrested for allegedly hitting a female. In reality, the former UFC light heavyweight king was accused of physically attacking his brother, James Anthony Hill Jr.

Under Michigan law, someone can be charged with domestic violence if the situation occurred with someone in the same household. Hill’s brother reportedly lived with him temporarily, leading to the news headline that is arguably misleading.

The manager of Jamahal Hill, Brian Butler-Au, releases statement following regarding domestic violence arrest

Jamahal Hill has yet to release a public statement about his arrest. Instead, Hill’s manager, Brian Butler-Au of Sucker Punch Entertainment, updated fans on the situation with the following message on Twitter:

“The recent “click bait” headlines about @JamahalH were based on an alleged dispute between him and his older brother. Jamahal adamantly maintains his innocence and denies the false accusations. We will not be commenting anymore about this until the truth comes out in court.”

Jamahal Hill was charged with misdemeanor aggravated domestic violence following his arrest. ‘Sweet Dreams’ will have to attend court in January to figure out what is next.

As for Hill’s fighting career, he’s expected to receive a light heavyweight title shot in his Octagon return since he vacated his throne. The 32-year-old plans to return to action in the first half of 2024, with his targeted opponent being the recently crowned champion, Alex Pereira.
