Israel Adesanya: “I Just Wanna Get Paulo Costa Before USADA Gets Him”

Last week Israel Adesanya made headlines with his UFC 236 performance which saw him capturing UFC interim middleweight title after defeating Kelvin Gastelum in an epic five-round war. His victory caught the attention of the MMA world. UFC head honcho also sang praises of rising sensation.

Some fighters were critical of Adesanya’s performance that includes Jon Jones who embroiled into a war of words with him on social media.

Another middleweight contender Paulo Costa previously said he wasn’t impressed with ‘Scrawny clown’ Israel Adesanya’s performance against Anderson Silva. ‘Borrachinha’ once again not thrilled by “Last Stylebender’s” recent win over Gastelum and labeled him ‘fake champ.’

Adesanya caught wind of those comments and naturally fires back at Costa in a recent interview with The MMA Hour. (h/t MMAMania)

“Hold up, fake champ? Does he have a belt? He wishes he was the ‘fake’ champ as well. First of all, didn’t he get popped for something recently for some acai in his stomach or something?”

Costa was scheduled to square off against Yoel Romero at UFC On ESPN 3 n April 27, 2019, in Florida. However, the bout scrapped off after ‘The Eraser’ forced to pull off the event unexpectedly. Yoel Romero was quick to claim that a USADA violation is behind Costa’s withdrawal

Later Costa revealed the reason that the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) fined him for failing to unveil the use of the stomach medication.

Even Costa’s manager claims that ‘Soldier of God’ is lying as Paulo Costa didn’t use any PEDs.

“It’s not true, there was no doping, he wasn’t caught doing [anything], That’s a lie. A big lie.”

Adesanya said Costa is just salty as he’s jealous of his hype.

“I just wanna get him before USADA gets him. And eventually if he climbs up the ranks like he thinks he will, eventually we’ll see each other so he can find out. Gastelum’s a tough guy. He [Costa] got touched up after the Uriah [Hall] fight. … A guy like that’s just salty. He’s just salty cause I’m the one getting the shine. They’re trying to steal my shine and I’m like, ‘f*ck no.’”

Paulo needs to get at least one impressive win before he gets his hands on the title while Adesanya reserves his spot for a title unification bout against Robert Whittaker this fall.
