There is something to fighting your way out of paradise. For ONE Championship’s Lowen Tynanes, he has managed to kickstart his pro fight career with the Hawaiian waves as his backdrop. After a 4-0 amateur career, Tynanes turned pro and proceed to run off an 8-0 record. Now labeled as one of the best Hawaiian MMA prospects to come off the islands in years, Tynanes makes his fifth appearance under the ONE Championship banner on April 15 in the Philippines versus Japan’s Koji Ando.
MiddleEasy.com spoke with Tynanes before his fight with Ando at ONE Championship 40. With the opportunity to speak with one of the best under the radar lightweights in the world we asked him about traveling with ONE, his MMA fighting father, but mostly about pizza, sharks, living in Hawaii, and maybe pizza eating sharks that swim in Hawaiian waters.
MiddleEasy: Are all Hawaiians bad asses?
Lowen Tynanes: You would need to ask all Hawaiians lol
ME: What are your feelings about Hawaiian pizza… gross or awesome? After a win what is your go to meal?
Tynanes: I like Hawaiian pizza, go to meal would be bbq chicken pizza and a bbq chicken salad
ME: With ONE you get to fight all over the world, favorite country to fight in? What is it like fighting in front of all these different cultures?
Tynanes: I want to fight in Thailand, it’s amazing I get to show case my skill all over Asia and see, meet new people as well.
ME: How big would a ONE Championship event be in Hawaii? What would that mean to you?
Tynanes: Hawaii is 80% Filipino so it can be considered Asia Hahahah but having one show in Hawaii would def be a dream, I’ve never fought at home As a professional. They need to make it happen before other promotions does Hahahah
ME: When not training how do you unwind and chill?
Tynanes: I go surfing every chance I have, the best way to clear the mind
ME: Would you rather fight one Piranha fish the size of a great white shark or 10 mini great white sharks the size of a Piranha fish?
Tynanes: dayum there both the same but I’d fight the small sharks
ME: What do you think about ONE’s new weight program?
Tynanes: I’ll fill everyone in inscribe gone through it
ME: How did it feel to fight on the same card as your father and what does your father think now that you’ve reached such a high level in MMA?
Tynanes: It was a dream come true, such a scary and amazing feeling! My dad’s my biggest support, If he wasn’t so busy now a days, I’d have him at every fight!
ME: If you could fight one fighter, no matter which organization, who would it be and why?
Tynanes: I don’t know, at the moment only got one face in my head lol
ME: Tell us a non-tourist place in Hawaii that we’d be missing out if we didn’t visit.
