It’s title or bust for Ilia Topuria.
Topuria Says There Is ‘Nothing Else’ For Him But To Fight For The Title
The UFC Featherweight contender put the division on notice once again, decimating Josh Emmett over five rounds at UFC Jacksonville last weekend.
While Topuria wouldn’t mind fighting Max Holloway in Spain, ‘El Matador’ might just secure the next title shot against the winner of Alexander Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez at UFC 290.
“That’s the most realistic situation for me, fighting for the title,” Topuria said on The MMA Hour. “There is nothing else for me. I show to everyone that today, even before this, [beating] Bryce Mitchell. In this division, no one can match my level of skills inside cage. No one. What else is for me in this division? Fight for the title.”
‘No One Can Stop Me’ At 145 Or 155
Topuria believes he’s the best in the world at not just featherweight but lightweight as well.
“In my mind, no one can stop me— even in the lightweight division,” Topuria added. “I know that I can finish everyone. I know that for a fact. I train with so many guys. I know the power I have, I know the technique I have, I know how good I am.”
Topuria Is Willing To Wait For Title Fight
The undefeated fighter will look to prove how good he is in his first world title fight, which he predicts will be against Alexander Volkanovski in due time.
“One of the best skills I have is the patience. I can wait [for a title shot]. I’m young. I’m 26 years old. I enjoy life. I’m happy with everything I have, so I can wait, no problem… I think Volkanovski gonna gonna hold the belt, I think he will.
‘Wherever We Go, I Beat Him’
Topuria is open to fighting ‘The Great’ anytime, anywhere.
“No fucking problem,” Topuria said, when asked if he’d fight Volkanovski in Australia. “No problem. I’m the best in the world. I can beat him in Australia, in Las Vegas in Miami and Spain, whatever. Wherever we go, I beat him. No problem.”
