Henry Cejudo knows who he is picking in the main event of UFC 274 between Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje.
Henry Cejudo betting on Charles Oliveira
The former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion took to the “Triple C & Schmo Show” to break down Oliveira vs. Gaethje. During the conversation, Cejudo gave his thoughts on who he believes has the edge heading into the fight. Cejudo admitted that Oliveira, in his opinion, is the more well-rounded fighter. “Triple C” gives the Brazilian champion the advantage in the standup game, as well as the ground game.
“Honestly, the person that probably has the edge, cause I’m here to be honest, and always honest, is probably Oliveira,” Cejudo said. “Just for the simple fact that he’s a better striker. And he’s got better wrestling. But, on the flip side, Justin Gaethje is a killer, man. “
Justin Gaethje is still a dog
Cejudo then noted that Gaethje also has an advantage in that he’s fighting at home in front of an Arizona crowd, which can play a huge factor in the middle of a big fight. However, when it’s all said and done, Cejudo thinks Oliveira simply bests Gaethje in every aspect inside the cage – except maybe calf kicks.
“He’s going to go out there and – actually they both have the edge, honestly. Because Gaethje is fighting here at home, here in Phoenix, here in Arizona. The crowd sometimes tends to play a big role, man. If they opponent does not know what it feels like to get booed and things like that – you’ve heard fighters talk about like ‘Oh the crowd got to me’ and blah blah blah. And ‘I wasn’t able to win.’
“But I think the person who is more well rounded – and everyone is going to agree with me, and Justin is a good friend of mine, is Charles Oliveira. Charles Oliveira has more takedowns, Charles Oliveira has more submissions, more submissions than anybody in the UFC. I mean, the dude is an absolute killer.
“But Justin Gaethje has the hometown crowd, and he has that damn calf kick. And I think if you can pop off a few of those, I do believe he can win that fight. And if he doesn’t man, he could be in for a rude awakening too. Cause these are the top contenders.”
Oliviera will put his 155-pound throne up for grabs against Gaethje in the main event of UFC 274 on pay-per-view (PPV). The action goes down from the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, May 7, 2022.
