Former UFC light heavyweight champion and retired MMA legend Glover Teixeira feels that whoever gets put in front of Alex Pereira next will be in for a tough time.
Pereira is fresh off a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship win over Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295. The title had been vacated as the previous champion, Jamahal Hill has been forced on the sidelines as he recovers from a ruptured Achilles. Pereira made the most of his title opportunity in a second weight class, stopping Prochazka in the second round via TKO.
Glover Teixeira Not Concerned About Alex Pereira’s Next Fight
Glover Teixeira, who has served as a mentor to “Poatan,” spoke to Mike Bohn of MMAJunkie following Pereira’s 205-pound title victory. Teixeira said he knew for quite some time that Pereira would show just how good he is inside the Octagon.
“We knew he’s special,” Teixeira said. “He have the mentality, the warrior spirit, the power, the physicality, and he got everything, man.”
He was then asked about who Pereira’s first light heavyweight title challenger could be.
“Any fight, man,” Teixeira said. “I’m just there to prepare for a fight. Like, I used to fight before and this is up to the manager and the organization. Whoever.”
UFC CEO Dana White has told media members that once Jamahal Hill is ready to go, he’s the fight that makes sense for Pereira. If that ends up being booked, Teixeira says he thinks it would play right into the hands of “Poatan.”
“If that’s the fight then I think it’s gonna be a great fight, but like I say about Jiri, the great warriors, the guys that I fought that I was able to spend 10 rounds between Jiri and Jamahal, went 50 minutes pretty much, but yeah it’s a great fight for Alex.”
