Gilbert Burns Willing To Help Michael Chandler Coach TUF Team Against Conor McGregor

The top-ranked UFC welterweight is willing to back Chandler against "Notorious" in the upcoming show's season.

Gilbert Burns looks like he wants in on this season’s action for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) between Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor. Chandler set this fight up by calling McGregor out with a tremendous promo following a hellacious front-kick knockout win over Tony Ferguson.

McGregor has been spending the past year getting over a broken leg, rehabbing his way back to full health so that he may return to the Octagon. While there are plenty of fighters who would’ve liked to have received the nod, Chandler landed the ticket and will fight the Irishman after the upcoming TUF season concludes.

Of course, each coach will be assembling their own team of coaches to supervise their teams. One man who might be part of Chandler’s coaching staff is top-ranked UFC welterweight Gilbert Burns. Burns and Chandler are good friends, and as he explained in an interview with Sherdog, he might be part of Chandler’s coaching staff.

“I think that fight’s gonna be spectacular. It’s gonna be crazy,” Burns said (via MMA News). “Michael’s my friend. I want the best for him… I don’t know, I’ll talk to Michael. I might be one of the coaches, depends on the fight and when they film. But yeah, I will come by and I think it will be a huge fight.”

Chandler is currently coming off a loss to Dustin Poirier this past November. He was defeated via submission at UFC 281, bringing him to a 2-3 record in the UFC. As for McGregor, the former UFC double champ is on a two-fight losing skid, both being TKO defeats to Dustin Poirier.

He has put on a ton of muscle in his off-season, leading many to believe that the fight between himself and Chandler will be contested at 170 pounds.
