Bantamweights battle it out in ‘The Lone Star State’.
After losing his title again earlier this year, former UFC Flyweight Champion Deveison Figueiredo is moving up a weight class. Figueiredo’s divisional debut comes against the always dangerous Rob Font.
Figueiredo last’s four outings in the Octagon have been against Brandon Moreno, where he came up short in their series. He’ll look to bounce back with a win, at a new weight.
New England’s Font is coming off a main event loss to Cory Sandhagen in August. Before the setback, the Boston fighter picked up a stunning stoppage victory over Adrian Yanez at UFC 287.
The bantamweight bout takes place from The Moody Center in Austin, Texas.
Round 1:
Font lands a combo to begin the fight. They clinch in the center of the Octagon and separate. Figueiredo goes secures a takedown but Font gets right back up to his feet, Figueiredo lands a crisp right hand. Font rushes in and Figueiredo immediately shoots for a takedown, which he gets. Font gets back up. Figueiredo fires a leg kick. Font lands a 1-2 before controlling Figueiredo against the cage. Figueiredo finds his way out of the position. Figueiredo pieces up Font with his punches. The former champ clinches up with Font against the cage before they separate. Figueiredo continues to find a home for his right hook. Figueiredo lands a leg kick before the bell sounds.

Round 2:
Font pumps out the jab. They clinch again, with Figueiredo having Font pressed towards the cage. The referee pauses the action due to a groin strike endured by Font. Font throws some uppercuts up the middle. Font stuffs a takedown from Figueiredo. They trade leg kicks. Font keeps moving forward on Figueiredo, only to be taken down by the Brazilian. Font gets back up but eats a knee to the body in the process. Font hits Figueiredo with a left hand. Figueiredo tags Font with multiple shots to the head.

Round 3:
Figueiredo isn’t able to take down Font in the opening seconds of the round. Figueiredo land s left hook that stuns Font. Figueiredo smells blood and really goes after Font. Font stands his ground though, giving back some punches of his own. Figueiredo secures a takedown on Font in slick fashion. Figueiredo manages to stay on top of Font. Figueiredo lands s short elbow from this position. Font has no answers for Figueiredo’s top control.
Both men finish the fight on the feet by swinging for the fences.
