It appears Tony Ferguson is not a fan of Charles Oliveira getting stripped of the lightweight title.
Oliveira was stripped of the 155-pound strap after coming in .5 pounds over the weight limit. Rather than a title defense, his win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 274 this past weekend made him the number one contender instead.
Oliveira claims he made the weight backstage before the weigh-ins which led to an entirely new debate. UFC president Dana White even stated he would now have a security guard where the scales were to avoid this situation from happening again.
Whether Oliveira is saying the truth or not remains to be seen. However, many felt he shouldn’t have been stripped if it was a scale issue.
Tony Ferguson Hits Out At Daniel Cormier
Ferguson knows all too well about getting stripped of the title due to circumstances beyond his control.
And one can imagine he sympathizes with Oliveira’s plight.
He initially praised the Brazilian for still being able to get the job done despite getting stripped of the title.
Then, on Wednesday, Ferguson decided to bring up Daniel Cormier’s infamous towel gate incident for his 2017 light heavyweight title fight against Anthony Johnson.
Cormier came above the 205-pound limit and after holding the towel in his second attempt, was able to controversially make the weight.
And Ferguson believes the UFC should have stripped Cormier just like Oliveira was.
“How Not to Make Weight Ladies & Gentlemen. Shoulda Stripped Em’ Like They Did @CharlesDoBronxs Shout Out To All Those Doin’ It Right & Keepin’ The Sport Clean 🧼 – Champ 🎓 -CSO- 🇺🇸🏆🇲🇽 # CuttingWeight Feeling Great 👍”
One can only wonder if Ferguson will bring up Khabib Nurmagomedov’s suspicious weigh-in for his title fight with Gaethje back in 2020.
