Tatiana Suarez is hoping the UFC eventually grants her request following a successful showing against Jessica Andrade.

Suarez had been out of action since June 2019 before returning against Montana De La Rosa back in February. Suarez had been battling neck and knee issues during her time away, but she returned in grand style, submitting De La Rosa in the second round. Andrade met the same fate at UFC Nashville, as Suarez locked up a second-round guillotine choke to seal the deal.

Not Struggling With Weight

Tatiana Suarez tipped the scales at 115.5 pounds for her bout against Andrade. She explained to MiddleEasy’s James Lynch how she was able to weigh in without draining herself.

“I felt amazing,” Suarez said. “I dieted really hard for I think it was maybe whenever I found out that I was gonna fight.”

Did Jessica Andrade Surprise Tatiana Suarez?

Suarez isn’t known for being a brash fighter, and she wanted to make that clear when giving her honest answer on whether or not Andrade surprised her.

“Honestly, no,” Suarez said. “She really couldn’t do anything in there against me and I’m not trying to be disrespectful. I thought she would get to me a little bit, I thought she would hit me, at least. I think she might’ve hit me, but I don’t remember it ’cause I didn’t feel it.”

What Did Win Over Andrade Prove?

Suarez’s submission over De La Rosa was nothing to sneeze at. Still, she believes that it may have not been a statement-making victory. Suarez thinks the finish over Andrade is just what the doctor ordered.

“I think that this fight’s definitely a lot more awakening for the division,” Suarez said. “They know that I’m back.”

UFC Blocking Her From Competing In Two Weight Classes

Suarez revealed to James Lynch that she attempted to fight in the women’s flyweight division, while also sticking around at 115 pounds. That request was denied by the UFC brass.

“I really wish that they would let me do both divisions,” Suarez said. “I know that I had asked Mick [Maynard] f0r a fight at ‘125 before this, and he was like, ‘You know, you gotta pick one or the other.’ I understand, it makes it really exciting for the fans. Like, ‘Man, she got another win at ‘115,’ but I think it also makes it exciting too when they go up a division and do well there, too.”
