Undefeated flyweight contender Tatiana Suarez returned on Saturday night looking to continue her big comeback tour after scoring a big win over Montana De La Rosa in February.
Sitting at 9-0 and on the cusp of a potential title opportunity, Suarez stepped into the co-main event spotlight at UFC Nashville for a clash with former UFC strawweight world champion Jessica Andrade. ‘Bate Estaca’ walked into the bout determined to get back into the win column after coming up short in back-to-back bouts against Yan Xionan and Erin Blanchfield in her last two outings.
Round 1
Suarez comes out and immediately fires off a couple of body kicks that Andrade blocks. Suarez throws a front kick and Andrade responds with a calf kick of her own. Andrade throws a front kick and Suarez attempts to catch it for a takedown. Andrade is able to fend off the attempt and resumes putting pressure on Suarez. A low kick from Andrade lands and Suarez responds with a body kick. Suarez moves in grabbing hold of Andrades’ ankle and wrestles the former champ down, immediately taking side control.
Suarez looks to move into mount, but Andrade is able to roll and work her way back up. Suarez still has a hold of Andrades’ neck while the two women clinch against the cage. Suarez delivers a couple of solid knee strikes in close before changing levels and attempting to take Andrade back down. Andrade defends perfectly and separates from Suarez.
Andrade begins moving forward, throwing combinations that quickly prompts Suarez to tie up her opponent and avoid any additional damage as the round comes to a close.
Round 2
Suarez once again comes out leading with the body kick and Adrade picks up the pressure. As Andrade approaches, Suarez shoots in and drags Anrade to the canvas. Suarez moves into side control and Andrade is able to bounce back up, but never relinquishes her hold of Andrade’s neck and pulls guillotine. Andrade attempts to survive the hold, but with entirely too much time left in the round, the former strawweight champ has no choice, but to tap out.
