Eddie Alvarez Vs. Dustin Poirier Rematch Targeted For UFC On Fox 30 On July 28

Dustin Poirier is coming off his Fight of the Year contender win over Justin Gaethje via TKO in the fourth round at UFC On Fox 29 bout in Arizona earlier this month. Immediately following the win, Poirier called for a title shot against Nurmagomedov (26-0), now it seems like he has to wait awhile for that.

Eddie Alvarez wasn’t too keen on a rematch against Dustin after they initially fought to a controversial no-contest at UFC 211 slugfest when Poirier was unable to continue after Alvarez landed an illegal knee in the head. Alvarez also has been driving hard for a chance to lock horns with Khabib, before, and after the latter won the championship at UFC 223.

As per a recent report from ESPN.com’s Brett Okamoto UFC is leaning toward a rematch between Poirier and former champion Eddie Alvarez, potentially headline the upcoming UFC on FOX 30 event inside Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on July 28.

If UFC seriously inclined to this rematch, the main question is who will get a shot at the lightweight title next against Khabib Nurmagomedov. We have Conor Mcgregor who is facing legal troubles, and Kevin Lee who recently mauled Brazilian striker Edson Barboza to a stoppage win is another option on the horizon.

Anyhow, this fight is a good opportunity for Dustin and Alvarez to finally end their beef.

UFC on FOX 30, currently features a featherweight heavy Jose Aldo and Jeremy Stephens to clash in a co-main event. UFC was eyeing women’s Flyweight title bout between Nicco Montano and challenger Valentina Shevchenko for the main headliner, but it seems Nicco’s health issues wouldn’t allow her to commit the proposed date.
