Dustin Poirier says that he wanted a showdown with Nate Diaz but apparently, he’s got word that the Stockton native is out of the fight game.

Poirier and Diaz have long been linked to a clash inside the Octagon. The two were expected to collide at the UFC 230 event back in Nov. 2018. That plan went awry when “The Diamond” was forced off the card due to a hip injury. Regardless, Poirier said he didn’t think the bout would happen anyway because Diaz was “playing games.”

Nate Diaz Is Retired, Says Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier took to his Twitter account to reveal that he is working towards getting back inside the Octagon. He also said that while he wanted to face Nate Diaz, that won’t be happening.

“Working on it!!!!”

“He’s retired.”

“Not sure… I wanted to fight Nate this summer but just found out he’s hanging them up. We’ll see what’s exciting in the future.”

Diaz was last seen in action back in June 2021. He went one-on-one with Leon Edwards on the UFC 263 card. Despite attempting a late rally, Diaz lost the fight via unanimous decision.

As for Poirier, he last competed back in Dec. 2021. He fell short in his bid for the UFC Lightweight Championship when he was submitted by Charles Oliveira.

Time will tell what’s next for Poirier and whether or not his claim of Diaz being retired holds true.
