Roman Dolidze disapproves of Khamzat Chimaev’s top spot.
‘Why Is He In The Rankings?’
The undefeated fighter didn’t just move to 13-0 with a win over Kamaru Usman, Chimaev also got a #9 ranking by his name at middleweight. Dolidze, who is ranked one number higher, has no idea why it came out this way with ‘Borz’ not having fought any contenders at 185.
While Usman is considered one of the best, he’s a former champ at welterweight, not middleweight. He’d make his middleweight debut and went the distance with Chimaev on less than two week’s notice at UFC 294. Even so, Chimaev believes he’s right up there in the title conversation after cracking the top 10 – having brought up a past promise from Dana White.
“I don’t even understand why [Chimaev] got a spot in rankings because he don’t deserve,” Dolidze told The Schmo. “To be in rankings in middleweight, you need to beat some middleweight, and especially ranked middleweights. Why is he in the rankings? I don’t understand.”
Dolidze vs. Chimaev?
Whether Chimaev deserves the #9 ranking or not, Dolidze is down to see if ‘Borz’ truly belongs with the best. But, that fight will have to wait as the Georgian fighter first takes on Nassourdine Imavov in the main event of UFC Vegas 85 on Saturday.
“I don’t know what next for him. I would love to fight him, because as I always say, I wanna fight with the best in this organization and in this sport. I always thought that he is one of the best.
“Why not?” Dolidze said, when asked if he’ll call out Chimaev post-fight. “Anything is possible. I know that if I will look at the situation and probably need one more fight to fight for title. If it will be Khamzat or anybody else, I don’t care.”
Do you agree with Roman Dolidze? Does Khamzat Chimaev deserve to be ranked at middleweight?
