Despite being slated for UFC: Rio, legal problems ends Maiquel Falcao’s UFC career

We humans have an almost innate ability to get into trouble and do stupid things from time to time. For most of us, we can chalk these things up as character building. However as Murphy’s Law can attest, ‘Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong’. The worst possible time for Murphy’s Law to sneak up and punch you in the xiphisternum may well be before fighting in your home country for the biggest MMA organization in the world. Unfortunately, this is exactly what has happened to Maiquel Falcao.

Tatame is reporting that Falcao has been cut from the UFC after only one fight due to an incident in Brazil back in 2002. His manager and all-round Lita Livre badass, Marcelo Brigadeiro, contacted Tatame directly:

“We’ve received an e-mail from Joe Silva yesterday saying that the UFC decided to end Maiquel Falcão’s contract. They decided to do that because of some legal problems Maiquel got involved recently.

Besides the sadness, we respect UFC’s decision and hope to return to the biggest event on the planet soon. I think this type of thing happen to make us think about a lot of things, to learn and move on, and you can be sure that Maiquel Falcão will move on.

I’m already in talks with other national and international promotions and you will soon watch Maiquel in action again.”

Despite not losing since the end of 2008 and being on an eight-fight win streak, it appears that being involved in stupid things before your fight career has even begun will get you kicked out of the UFC. There is no word yet on a new opponent for Tom Lawlor at UFC: Rio. [Source]
