- Daniel Cormier doesn’t see anybody who truly has what it takes to get the better of heavyweight Jon Jones
- DC thinks Jones and Stipe Miocic are almost even in all aspects of fighting
Daniel Cormier tried to break down the skills of Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic ahead of their looming heavyweight title fight. However, a part of DC is telling him it seems as if nobody out there truly presents a strong case for beating “Bones.”
A take from a former opponent
As the only fighter who fought Jones and Miocic more than once, Cormier was asked to give us a quick preview of what to expect from both fighters in terms of skills. According to DC, “Bones” is better in kicks, while Miocic is the better puncher. The rest, are evenly matched.
“You know when I just break it down like that, in terms of the power it’s got to be Miocic. He hits harder with his hands. Jones obviously kicks harder. Stamina, I’d say they’re pretty even. Kicking? Jon Jones holds the advantage. I believe that everything else is kind of a wash in reality like the wrestling, the cardio, they’re both A+ in those skills and those areas like, those guys are as good as they come in regards to mixed martial arts and fighting,” Cormier assessed on DC & RC show.
DC isn’t sure anymore
Having shared the Octagon with Miocic twice, Cormier is quite confident about his assessment of his former heavyweight rival. However, he also came clean that Jones’ stunning heavyweight debut victory at UFC 285 makes him think that no contender could possibly get the job done.
“Miocic is tall, Miocic is big, Miocic has the ability to match Jones in a lot of those areas where Jones holds those advantages but the reality is man after what Jon Jones did last weekend in his heavyweight debut, it’s gonna be very difficult to imagine any heavyweight beating this guy right now but imagining someone as a challenge can be difficult until proven otherwise,” DC added.
Jones made waves in the world of MMA once again with his sensational submission win over Ciryal Gane at UFC 285 this past weekend. He is gunning for a showdown with Miocic and it is becoming more and more apparent that it’s the only fight to make at this point.
