UFC Hall Of Famer Daniel Cormier and Jorge Masvidal are going at it on social media over a potential fight against new welterweight champion Leon Edwards.

Daniel Cormier & Jorge Masvidal Get Heated

Over the past weekend, a new UFC welterweight champion was crowned in Edwards, who knocked out Kamaru Usman with a hellacious fifth-round head kick.

Now, Edwards’ longtime rival, Masvidal, is trying to put his name in the hat for a shot at the champion. However, there have been those who have voiced their disapproval for such a matchup.

One such person being UFC Hall Of Famer Daniel Cormier. Back in 2019, Masvidal and Edwards got into a backstage brawl in London. Masvidal was doing an interview shortly after knocking out Darren Till, and Edwards was passing by and began talking at the Floridian striker.

Masvidal then threw and landed a few shots on Edwards, but the situation was quickly broken up. The incident was famously dubbed “three piece with a soda” by Masvidal himself.

Edwards called for a fight with Masvidal for quite some time, but Masvidal instead was paired with more high-profile opponents moving forward; such as Ben Askren, Nate Diaz, Usman, and Colby Covington.

Now, however, Masvidal seems to be calling for his shot against Edwards, wanting to not only solve their past issues, but land an opportunity at the welterweight crown now that it’s in Edwards’ possession.

Cormier took to “DC & RC” on ESPN and explained why he thinks Masvidal doesn’t deserve a shot at Edwards now that “Rocky” is on top.

“Bro, don’t fight him,” Cormier said. “Because for two years, when he was the man, he could not say your name. Now all of a sudden he’s like, ‘If you become the champ,’ he wants to put an end to this thing?

“He should not fight Jorge Masvidal. He literally should just big league him and not even say his name. Because why would you do that when a guy snuck you backstage but then never fought you?

“Now all of a sudden, you’re the man, and he wants to fight you. I like Jorge Masvidal a lot. He’s a really good dude, but it’s like, come on, Jorge. We’ve got to do better than that.”

This did not sit well with “Gamebred,” who took to Twitter to blast Cormier for his comments, suggesting “DC” is taking this stance because Masvidal didn’t do an interview with him for his YouTube channel.

“Guess you’re still butt hurt since I didn’t do the interview you requested on your weak YouTube channel during my fight week.

“I know you needed my name to produce some sort of views since Ariel went solo and you became a has been.

“Just make sure when Dana calls and you tells you to promote the biggest fight the current champ can make in the division which is me, wear your best suit from DXL and make sure you do as your told like a good boy. Maybe you’ll get a treat from your master.”

Cormier then fired back with some words of his own, seemingly suggesting that Masvidal himself didn’t write the Tweets, but instead, his manager, Malki Kawa.

“Jorge you’ve always been the man, Malik stay off his page. I stand by what I said. You don’t get unlimited title fights Malki, beat Durinho get to 1-3 in last 4 and maybe get a title shot.

“See Malki now you got me disrespecting my friend Jorge.”
