  • Daniel Cormier got a feeling that Dricus du Plessis could steal a win over Sean Strickland at UFC 297
  • DC thinks “Stillknocks'” style could be dangerous for “Tarzan”

Daniel Cormier believes that Sean Strickland is capable of performing at a high level but Dricus du Plessis poses a huge threat for him at UFC 297.

Dricus’ style could beat Sean

Speaking on DC & RC, Cormier talked about the things he has overlooked in both Strickland and Du Plessis. According to DC, both has their own strengths but it’s the unconventional yet deadly style of “Stillknocks” that could make the difference.

“I think that we, as a sport, overlooked how mentally tough Sean Strickland is. Because we talk about all of the things from the past, some of the absurd things he might say, but the moment he gets into the octagon stays in the course,” Cormier began.

“He was talking about Israel Adesanya and dogs and all kinds of crazy stuff in the build-up to the last fight. They stepped into the octagon, and he looked like he had no issue with Izzy; he was there to do a job, and he was going to do it in the best way possible. I think that is what’s most overlooked about Sean Strickland is because regardless of the emotional outbursts that he may have in the build to these fights when he’s in there, he fights with a game plan and I don’t anticipate that against Dricus du Plessis,” he continued.

“Dricus is a guy that I have overlooked time and time again. I love that he has thick skin because I have said so many times how he’s tired, how he’s fatigued, how he does things so awkwardly, is he really good? Guess what, the answer is a resounding yes. Because when you could do what he did to Robert Whitaker you can’t not be good… He’s odd, he’s awkward, he’s huge for the weight class and he is a real dangerous opponent for the champion Sean Strickland. If Strickland not on his game we’re going to have a new middleweight champion,” he added.

Bad blood

Fans are expecting to see a dog fight once Strickland and Du Plessis step inside the Octagon at UFC 297 this weekend. They already had a physical altercation at UFC 296 and continued it by attacking each other verbally. Stating the obvious, the bad blood between the two makes their title fight even more exciting.

Strickland needs to prove that not only he can win but also defend the middleweight title. On the other hand, Du Plessis will do his best to become the new 185-pound king.
