UFC In Talks To Book Daniel Cormier vs. Derrick Lewis Heavyweight Title Fight For UFC 230
Last week UFC announced the lackluster flyweight title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and No. 4 ranked contender, Sijara Eubanks for UFC 230. But fight fans expressed their disappointment on this less stellar headliner bout; it seems UFC was all ear and still trying to bolster up this card to be as big as possible.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto recently reported that promotion is in works to book a heavyweight title fight between champion Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis as a new headliner on short notice for UFC 230.
Per sources, UFC has opened talks around a Daniel Cormier vs. Derrick Lewis heavyweight title fight to headline UFC 230 on Nov. 3 in New York. This would be coming, obviously, off of Lewis’s come-from-behind win on Saturday at UFC 229. Not a done deal, but it’s being explored.

Cormier who last fought at UFC 226, when he made history after knocking out then champion Stipe Miocic to become a second fighter in the UFC history to hold titles in two weight divisions simultaneously. Currently, he’s dealing with his hand injury which he suffered against Miocic bout and has repeatedly stated that he wants two more fights then to retire at his birthday in March.
In one of those two fights, Cormier was expected to lock horns against former UFC champion and current wrestling pro-Brock Lesnar by early 2019 to call it a career. Lesnar who hasn’t signed the UFC contract yet and still doing WWE shows to make money, as it seems the fight isn’t cemented in place as it was talked before.
Lewis who picked up a huge comeback victory via knockout with the 30s left in the clock. The idea of putting this fight as a headliner bout is an interesting idea, and it shows that UFC is desperate to make this event as good as possible after all the chaos and backlash from UFC 229 post-fight brawl.
Nothing is official as of yet, but UFC 230 is current headline by Valentina Shevchenko versus Sijara Eubanks and in the co- Nate Diaz to clash against Dustin Poirier.
