  • A text from Dana White revealed how he lashed out at Jon Jones over contract negotiations in 2014 was publicized
  • The UFC boss called “Bones” a “punk”

A publicized court document divulged what UFC president Dana White said about Jon Jones’ fractious contract negotiation with the company in 2014.

The boss was fuming

Back in 2014, light heavyweight champion Jones was pushing for a title fight with Daniel Cormier but the UFC was aiming for a rematch with Alexander Gustafsson. At the time, “Bones” was also demanding for a salary increase before agreeing to extend his contract with the UFC.

Stating the obvious, White wasn’t happy about it. According to a court document dated May 14. 2014, White was talking to then-UFC chairman Lorenzo Fertitta about Jones’s situation and was evidently fuming.

The document read:

“What’s up with Jones? Did he straighten up or is he still being a scumbag?” White texted Fertitta.

“Still a douche, but we’re inching closer,” Fertitta replied. “Haven’t moved on money, but sent the letter with an ultimatum.”

“Awesome,” White answered. “F*** that punk, Lorenzo. He needs to know we don’t need him, or he will f*** us over more than he already does.”

Jones is still a big draw in the UFC

It’s no secret that “Bones” has always had a rocky relationship with the UFC. Besides contract issues, the UFC also had to deal with Jones’ personal life troubles. Nevertheless, Jones remains one of the company’s biggest draws.

As it stands, Jones successfully claimed the heavyweight title by finishing Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. He was set to face Stipe Miocic in a battle for GOAT status. Unfortunately, “Bones” suffered a shoulder injury and was forced to pull out resulting to the cancellation of the fight.
