Conor McGregor is not willing to risk losing it all on a silly bet.

Conor McGregor is the most popular fighter on the UFC roster. Even though he has not fought in a couple of years, fans still hang on to every word he writes on social media. When McGrgeor Tweets fans come out in flocks to answer him and ask him questions, sometimes he answers them but many times he “Tweets and Deletes.” In McGregor’s most recent Twitter postings, he tackled the topic of fighters betting on themselves.

In the past year, the UFC has put a ban on fighters and their families placing bets on fights. Before that many fighters, coaches, friends, and families would show their support and place their bets on themselves or their loved ones. Following a betting scandal involving possible insider information the UFC has restricted such betting from taking place. Despite the ban, McGregor is explaining why he would not risk it all in his upcoming fight against Michael Chandler anyway.

Conor McGregor is not willing to bet his whole purse to win against Michael Chandler.

Despite looking to win big, a fighter betting on themselves is a way of showing confidence. Boxers and fighters in other promotions are still allowed to do so, leaving McGregor to ask his peers a broad question. He asked if anyone had bet the whole paycheck in a fight. This was in response to boxers Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis saying they would do just this for their upcoming bout.

He responded to his own question by saying he would not be willing to risk it all against Chandler. He took a shot at the rest of the UFC roster in the process by pointing out that he makes much more than them.

“I make substantially more than everyone on the roster combined so it’s not feasible. I could bet a portion however. But it’s ridiculous, and no. This game, and the longer you are in it, gets tougher and tougher,” he wrote. “I’m keeping my hard earned money for my loved ones”

The upcoming bout between McGregor and Chandler is still a work in progress. The pair coached on the most recent season of The Ultimate FIgher which will begin airing next week. There seem to be some lingering issues with McGregor’s USADA status and once that is sorted out, a date can be set. There is sure to be some trash talk leading up to the event but no fight purses will be on the line apparently.
