Conor McGregor is not happy with the hate he received from Anthony Smith.

Conor McGregor has been out of competitive action for over a year and a half. His last appearance in the UFC Octagon was in July 2021 when he face Dustin Poirier in the main event of the UFC 264 event. During the fight, McGregor broke his leg and has spent the time since trying to heal up.

Recently McGregor has been looking back to his fighting shape and then some. He is constantly boasting about his physique on social media and posting videos of him training in the gym. During his time away, McGregor had pulled himself from the required USADA testing pool, meaning that he had not been randomly drug tested in his absence. This fact did not sit well with some fellow fighters.

Anthony Smith accused Conor McGregor of cheating the system

Fellow UFC fighter Anthony Smith spoke candidly about McGregor and his situation. Smith felt that what McGregor was doing was unfair and accused him of leaving the USADA program in order to use performance-enhancing drugs to help with recovery. He cited two other fighters with similar injuries including Chris Weidman, who has been having difficulties on his road back to health.

“It bothers the f-ck out of me that he pulled himself out of the USADA pool,” Smith said while on The Believe You Me podcast with Michael Bisping. “There’s only one reason you would do that. There’s only one reason you would do that. He’s looking jacked as sh*t. Keep seeing videos of him flexing in front of mirrors and screaming. He’s huge. He healed really fast. I talked to [Christ] Weidman today. He’s still having struggles. Still struggling to get back. Anderson [Silva] took a long time.”

McGregor has caught wind of these statements and took to Twitter to fire some shade back at Smith.

“This rat spoke to weidman who’d the same horrific injury and is having severe complications still, is bothered that I was able to heal/return to a normal way of life. He, like many other rats in my game, would be happier if I wasn’t able to play with my children the same again.”

“The audacity of this loser! @lionheartasmith you’re a loser,” he wrote. “The % of the bones joining back after a break like this is so low. You think I give a f-ck about anything else. I am the most tested fighter all time in combat sport. I give everything to this game. You – Nothing!

I thought you broke your leg yourself in your last fight lol you little dope. You embarrassment of a man! Keep my name out of your fucking mouth. Prick.”

McGregor also addressed his USADA absence.

Everything was fully disclosed before I began. The state of allowance for athletes to recover from injuries as horrific as the one I overcame must be assessed. My thoughts are with weidman and Anderson Silva. The 3 of us, and only us, know the severity of this injury.

McGregor has previously mentioned that he expects to return to drug testing in February. He will need six months of clean tests in the bank before competing in the UFC again. Smith is not the only person to have questioned McGregor’s growth since he has been out.
