Colby Covington Goes Off On Islam Makhachev
Appearing on Submission Radio, Covington was asked about Makhachev potentially moving up. “Chaos” clearly doesn’t believe Makhachev would succeed in the welterweight division. He also mentioned Makhachev’s struggles against UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski.
“Oh my gosh, did you see what that little Australian midget almost did to him? He had him melted,” Covington said. “That’s a little 145-pound midget. That’s a little shrimp that I put on the barbie over in Australia. A little barbeque, put a little f*cking shrimp on the barbie. That little shrimp took him five rounds and had him beat. He needs to worry about defending his title and beating that little ’45-pounder.”
Covington went on to say that he’d manhandle Makhachev inside the Octagon.
“You come up to a real man’s division like welterweight, these are f*cking the best of the best,” Covington said. “This is the toughest division in the entire world ’cause this is what most of the people in the world walk around at. This is the weight, 170, 180 pounds. So, I love it, boys. If you look at the storylines, you got the USA vs. Russia angle. I think the fight sells, it’s a big fight. It’s not a competitive fight. I win it going away, I beat him pillar to post.”
The former interim UFC Welterweight Champion shared his opinion that Makhachev’s wrestling can’t hang with his. He also said his striking is superior, and went as far as to say it would be an “easy fight.”
