UFC president Dana White is in favor of Colby Covington becoming Leon Edwards’ next challenger, something Belal Muhammad blatantly called a perk of being a “white” guy. Covington, meanwhile, was fired up after learning about Muhammad’s controversial comment and wants him reprimanded by the UFC.

Belal is baffled

According to Muhammad, he is happy that there are people who recognize his impressive run in the UFC. However, “Remember The Name” pointed out that he really couldn’t fathom how after a year of inactivity, Covington, all of a sudden is getting a crack at UFC gold over him.

“I’m just glad that people are starting to notice it now and realize it. Even if you’re not a fan, you have to respect the work I’ve put in, what I’ve gone through. I’m on an eight-fight winning streak, I’ve won 12 of my last 13 fights. It’s not like I’m beating nobodies, I’m beating ranked guys. I have more ranked wins than the champion. I have more ranked wins than the former champion that wasn’t rematches. I have more ranked wins than all these guys and I have the fourth-longest winning streak in the history of the Welterweight division and I’m not even being mentioned in the title contention when Dana comes out and says, ‘Colby’s next for sure.’ It just doesn’t make any sense,” Muhammad told the Anik & Florian Podcast.

“Where the hell did Colby come from? He jumped the line in front of everybody. His last win was Masvidal who is, if we’re talking about rankings, is No. 12. If we’re talking about wins, he’s lost two in a row and he got knocked out before that fight [with Covington] against Usman and still didn’t finish him. Colby almost got finished in that fight by Masvidal. How does he just jump the line?,” he questioned.

It deserves a punishment

It didn’t take long for Covington to make a fiery response. for the two-time UFC title challenger, Muhammad should be held responsible for the “racist” comment, and the UFC, on the other hand, should do something about it.

“That guy’s racist man. He was saying that the only reason this happened is cause I’m white? How is that not racist? That’s disgusting. That’s despicable, that f***ing disgusting man. I would never say that and use someone’s color of their skin by that’s why they got that done. Disgusting man. He should be literally fined and kicked out of the UFC,” Covington told James Lynch in an interview.

“… I would never say something so stupid, because it has nothing to do with that ever. I don’t care what color skin you are man, that’s not what I look into. I look to the integrity inside your heart, you know the person that you are. I look at other things, how smart you are. It’s just disgusting man,” he continued.

Backed by the UFC boss, Covington believes Edwards has no choice but to fight him next. On the other hand, Muhammad, who has won his last four fights since the No Contest against Edwards in 2021, is expected to face No. 6 welterweight contender Shavkat Rakhmonov in his next bout.
