Colby Covington is interested in future fights against UFC champions Islam Makhachev (lightweight) and Sean Strickland (middleweight).
On Saturday night, Covington looks to capitalize on his third undisputed welterweight title shot when he takes on the reigning king, Leon Edwards, in the UFC 296 main event. Assuming he gets the job done, ‘Chaos’ has plans for several super-fights moving forward.
Covington’s controversial personality, which most people believe is him playing a character, has led to him making several enemies in other divisions. During an appearance on the FULL SEND PODCAST, ‘Chaos’ had this to say about potentially fighting Islam Makahchev:
“That would be a great fight. That’d be a fight that his daddy Khabib [Nurmagomedov] never wanted to do. He talked about it. He said he was going to come to 170 all these times, but they never actually walked the talk. I know Islam’s out there talking, but is he going to walk the walk? Or is he just going to talk the talk? It’s a great fight. It’s a Rocky III storyline. Rocky vs. Drago. It’s America vs. Russia, USA wrestling vs. Sambo. So, I think it could be the biggest fight of the highest magnitude… I’m not going to 155, he’s going to have to come to welterweight.”
Islam Makhachev is riding a thirteen-fight win streak in the lightweight division. Yet, the 155-pound king has voiced an interest in moving up to welterweight in the near future, likely due to his drastic weight cut.
Therefore, a fight between Makhachev and Colby Covington could happen in 2024 if the latter emerges victorious at UFC 296.

Colby Covington says a fight against Sean Strickland is possible
Earlier this week, Colby Covington voiced his disdain for UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland, who seems to have mutual feelings for ‘Chaos.’ As a result, Covington has teased a potential move up to middleweight to challenge Strickland for his 185-pound throne.
During the previously mentioned podcast appearance, Covington had this to say about potentially fighting Strickland:
“I see the Sean Strickland fight [happening in the future]. He’s been talking and kind of running his mouth… I’d walk circles around [Strickland at a press conference]. That guy is dumber than a box of rocks. That guy is so dumb…I just think he’s plain dumb.”
Before worrying about what’s next, Colby Covington will have a tough test waiting for him inside the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night. Leon Edwards is riding a twelve-fight unbeaten streak (one no-contest), and he’s coming off back-to-back wins against former world champion Kamaru Usman.
It’ll be intriguing to see if Covington can silence the doubters by defeating Edwards and obtaining an undisputed UFC title.
