Colby Covington vouches for Conor McGregor having a spot in office in Ireland.

McGregor has been quite outspoken on a number of topics, including politics in his home country. The “Notorious” one hasn’t been satisfied with the efforts of those currently in office in Ireland. He has been vocal over the January 2022 murder of Ashling Murphy, and has called for immigration reform.

Colby Covington Supports Idea Of Conor McGregor In Office In Ireland

During an interview for Mirror Fighting, Colby Covington weighed in on the idea of Conor McGregor getting into politics in Ireland. It’s clear that “Chaos” is a fan of what McGregor is trying to get done (h/t AFeldmanMMA).

“I think Conor would be a great leader,” Covington said. “He has a lot of those leadership, world championship qualities – and he believes in freedom which is most important…He doesn’t want to see his people killed in the street and the streets of Ireland being burned…The guy’s already been a world class fighter, one of the best fighters we’ve ever seen in the sport, the biggest fighter the sport has ever seen.”

Covington is gunning for his first non-interim UFC championship. He’ll have his chance in the main event of UFC 296 on December 16. He’ll be challenging Leon Edwards for the 170-pound gold inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As for McGregor, he hasn’t been seen inside the Octagon since July 2021. He suffered a fractured tibia and fibula, and couldn’t make it to the second round of his trilogy matchup with Dustin Poirier. McGregor has been recovering since that time and UFC CEO Dana White has revealed that the “Notorious” one is trending towards a summer return, although many had hoped he’d be booked for UFC 300.
