Colby Covington ran down members of the UFC roster while suggesting that his long-awaited fight with welterweight champion Leon Edwards will likely go down inside the world-famous Madison Square Garden this fall.

After nearly a year off the grid, Covington re-emerged much to the surprise of everyone at UFC 286 in March. ‘Chaos’ stepped on the scale, acting as the official backup for a trilogy bout between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman. Though Covington wasn’t called upon to step inside the Octagon, his presence garnered a fair amount of attention.

That very night, UFC President Dana White revealed that Covington would be the next man in line to challenge Edwards for the welterweight title. The reveal perplexed fans around the world considering Covington had done little to earn a third title opportunity. Regardless, White was insistent and according to Covington, the bout will likely go down at UFC 295 when the promotion heads back to MSG in NYC for its highly anticipated 30th-anniversary showcase.

“I think this is going to go down in The Garden. I think it lines up on the board perfectly,” Covington said in a video on Chael Sonnen’s YouTube channel. “You know, they keep making a big deal out of this 30th-anniversary show. Then what better way than to give the gift of us in Madison Square Garden for the 30th-anniversary show in New York.”

In true ‘Chaos’ fashion, the welterweight standout used his announcement as an opportunity to run down one-half of the UFC 295 headliner, Jon Jones

“You know, they gotta stack that card. They can’t depend on Jon Jones and you know better than anyone, he’s unreliable. He’s unprofessional. He could get popped for steroids. He could do a glass of tequila and some booger sugar up his nose and he might be beating his wife and in jail again. So, who better to have his insurance policy than Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington? The guy that just so happens to occupy the fourth-highest gate in arena history in Madison Square Garden.”

Jon Jones is expected to defend his UFC heavyweight title against general consensus heavyweight GOAT Stipe Miocic in the UFC 295 main event.

Colby Covington Slams Dustin Poirier and Khamzat Chimaev for Supposedly Ducking Fights

Covington was far from done running down the UFC roster, suggesting that he has accepted every fight presented to him. He specifically called out Dustin Poirier and Khamzat Chimaev for allegedly ducking him.

“I’ve accepted every fight that’s been offered my way. First, it was Dustin [Poirier]. They wanted to make that fight. They saw the potential in a big fight there and Dustin’s a p*ssy. He’s scared. He ran away from the challenge. Now we know that he’s all talk. He’s no walk.

“Then I was ready to end the hype with [Khamzat] Chimaev, but then he’s scared. He’s unprofessional. He’s a little dork. He ran away from the division. He’s scared to fight. He talks this big game online, but he don’t talk inside the Octagon. He don’t sign contracts and be a professional.”

Covington also accused Conor McGregor of stealing his spot on the current season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Unfortunately, Covington’s record over the last few years is nowhere near as impressive as his gift for gab. ‘Chaos’ is 2-2 in his last four bouts dating back to 2019. His two losses came in against then-welterweight champion Kamaru Usman while his wins came against former titleholder Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal, two fighters who were on multi-fight losing streaks at the time.

Nevertheless, Covington is the next man in line for a shot at Leon Edwards’ 170-pound crown and it appears that the two men will square off inside the world’s most famous arena this November.
