Colby Covington has some words of advice for Gilbert Burns following his loss.

Colby Covington is in an interesting position. He has been promised the next UFC welterweight title shot against Leon Edwards but with no date set. Now he has Belal Muhammad fresh off his fifth win in a row but he is not worried about being leapfrogged. Instead, he is taking a look at the loss by Gilbert Burns and offering up some advice.

Burns lost to Muhammad on Saturday night. Both men are managed by the same man, Ali Abdelaziz. The fight was a last-minute bout added to UFC 288 following the loss of the scheduled c0-main event. Covington thinks Burns got the raw end of the deal and thinks he should be looking to change his representation.

“I just feel sorry that his (Burns) representation, that’s what I feel sorry for,” he said to Submission Radio. “He has a guy that’s managing his ship that is a clear scumbag, a clear sleazeball. Using his fighters against each other and having his fighters fight each other so he can make a payday from both of them. It’s disgusting and despicable you know Ali Abdela-sleaze, the way he throws his fighters out there to profit off them and he doesn’t care about any of the fighters…I hope he goes out there and does the right thing, gets better representation.”

Colby Covington thinks his fight against Leon Edwards should take place in the U.S.

Covington has not fought since March of last year. Despite this fact, he is willing to wait for the title shot against Edwards that has been promised to him. It seemed as though the UFC wanted that fight to take place in London this summer, but the timeline was not right for Edwards. He is interested in a card in Abu Dhabi in October. Now Covington is weighing in on this, saying Edwards does not have a choice and that America is where the fight should take place.

“They’re looking for August, September now is my guess. They don’t have anything locked in yet. The sooner the better for me, you guys know how I stay, I’m ready 24/7, 365,” he said. ” This is gonna happen on American soil. That’s where the biggest and best business gets done anyways, boys. I mean, this is where this market is at, the biggest and best markets are over here in America. So we’re going to do this it’s going to be a spectacle. It’s going to make be a big thing. So you know, Leon’s got no say in this, he needs to sit there and take what he gets like a good little boy.”

Edwards is fresh off two back-to-back wins over Kamaru Usman and although he has mentioned before that he is not interested in facing Covington, it seems that is the direction the UFC is heading in.
