UFC bantamweight Marlon Chito Vera has his eyes set on the top contender Petr Yan for his next fight.
Coming off a statement win over Rob Font at UFC Vegas 53, Chito Vera moves closer to getting a shot at the 135-lbs gold. Scoring three knockdowns during the fight, Vera put in an incredible performance for his debut five-round fight. Although Font reflected an impressive amount of significant strikes, he would ultimately avoid a finish to lose out on the judges’ scorecard.
Chito Vera wants Petr Yan
In a recent interview with The Schmo, Marlon Chito Vera shared his road to getting at the title. The 29-year-old believes a fight against Petr Yan next will be the right path to get to the bantamweight strap.
“We’re right there. We’re literally one win away from fight for that belt so I hope we get it done with Yan. I think that’s the path to the belt. Number 1 contender, we kick his ass, and we move forward.”
Vera believes a win over the former interim champion and current top contender will put him in a prime position to call for a shot against the reigning king at bantamweight, Aljamain Sterling.
Vera wonders if Henry Cejudo tested positive
“If they want to make it happen, I kick his ass again, put him out the same way. He going to keep talking, I keep winning.”
Following the abrupt announcement of his retirement, Henry Cejudo has been asking for a return fight ever since. Hanging up his gloves at the very top of the game, the former two-division champion now finds himself struggling to make a comeback. While many believe his decision was reliant on gaining leverage in negotiations, Chito Vera does not think so.
Vera speculated over the possibility of ‘Triple C’ retiring due to a failed drug test as he pondered over his return.
“It’s weird he retires, now wants to come back. Maybe he test positive, and they told him he test positive so he retire, and now he’s coming back.”
“I’m fighting number one contender next, I’m kicking his ass, and whoever has the belt, I’m taking it from them.”
Not one to be distracted by what others are doing, Chito Vera stays confident in his abilities to overcome any challenges in way of securing the UFC bantamweight title.
