Charles Oliveira is open to a super-fight with Alexander Volkanovski.
Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is ready to return to the Octagon once again. Oliveira will be taking on Beneil Dariush at UFC 292 on Saturday night. This is an important fight for both men as it is being considered a title contender belt. The winner will most likely have a shot at champion Islam Makhachev, a bout that Oliveira desperately wants. Oliveira lost his championship bid to Makhachev back in October of last year. Now his bout with Dariush could get him there.
“I’m very ready for this fight, anything related to the injury is passed, is behind me and I’m ready for this fight,” he said to Mainevent on YouTube. “Beneil, all the respect in the world, is a complete fighter, but you know what, I’m not worried about what Beneil brings to the table. I’m worried about what I’m about to take, I’m worried about what I can do. And I’m a complete fighter of somebody that can drive standing up and can do a lot of damage on the ground. And that’s what I’m worried about.”
Charles Oliveira would be open to fighting Alexander Volkanovski
Oliveira’s main goal is to regain his lost UFC title. He was stripped of his belt after missing weight at UFC 274 in his fight against Justin Gaethje. When he fought Islam Makhachev for the vacant title he was submitted in the second round. However, once he gets his belt back he would be open to some new challenges including a super fight with featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski.
“We’re here to fight the best,” he said. “We’re here to fight the best in the world. Who knows? Who knows if I become a champion again in my division. He (Volkanovski) is a champion of his division and we can set things up and we can fight each other for the belts.”
Oliveira vs. Dariush is a fan-favorite bout of great importance. Makhachev’s last defended his belt against Volkanovski in February. It seems he’s waiting until this bout between Oliveira and Dariush is settled and then perhaps we will see the winner in October if the UFC returns to Abu Dhabi once again.
