Chael Sonnen couldn’t quite understand what it is that Jorge Masvidal wants from him.

Chael knows he can’t trust Jorge

Masvidal has been promoting his pro boxing debut and he recently fired shots at Sonnen. As expected, the outspoken “Gamebred” tried to get “The Bad Guy” going by throwing various insults at his fellow former UFC title contender.

Addressing the subject on his YouTube channel, Sonnen admitted that he is confused about Masvidal’s callout. The only thing clear for Sonnen at this point is that he couldn’t let “Gamebred” harm him in any way when they cross paths.

“I’m not sure if Jorge Masvidal challenged me, I kept being told that… But I didn’t know if I was challenged or if I was threatened,” Sonnen said. “If I was a competitive fighter, I would understand — I have been challenged. By a guy much littler than I, but I have been challenged nonetheless, in an equal opportunity. I didn’t say you’ve got to be bigger. Laws of the streets, I would prefer it. But either way, if it’s your idea, we’ll overlook that but because I’m not a competitive fighter I felt that I was threatened. Either way, policy will still be applied. I will not let him get close. I cannot trust Jorge Masvidal.”

“Jorge Masvidal tried to come at me and call me a fake gangster. I have more felonies than he does, which is jailhouse talk. I wouldn’t expect any of you to be impressed by that, but it means he sleeps on the bottom bunk, and he will know what that means,” he added. “… So, what is it that he wants? What is it specifically that Jorge Masvidal would like? I can’t see any reason. I wouldn’t give it to him. There hasn’t been another time in life that Jorge has asked me for something and I’ve told him ‘No.’ I won’t bring those receipts to you. We’ve scratched each other’s back it’s been back and forth but there’s still not a time that I’ve said no.”

Jorge is back in training

Masvidal called it quits after losing to Gilbert Burns last year. However, he confirmed that he is now unretired and has been back in training as he gears up for his pro boxing debut.

Aside from calling Sonnen out, “Gamebred” has also set his sights on his former UFC BMF rival Nate Diaz. As it stands, nothing is concrete yet but Masvidal seems eager to make the bout happen.

On the other hand, Sonnen has been inactive since losing to Lyoto Machida via TKO at Bellator 222 in 2019. He also hasn’t shown any signs of interest in making a return.
