60 days in and Cain Velasquez has released another statement from his jail cell.

The former UFC Heavyweight Champion was arrested on February 28th for ‘attempted murder’ and other charges. Velasquez would shoot at an accused pedophile who allegedly molested his child. Velasquez would be denied bail and has been behind bars ever since.

Spreading Awareness

With his next court date quickly approaching, Velasquez has spoken out on his situation a couple of times.

The UFC star would break silence on his arrest a few weeks ago and has now followed it up with more words. Velasquez would spread awareness when it came to sexual assault and child abuse.

“As April, National Sexual Assault Awareness & Child Abuse Prevention Month, comes to an end, let’s remember the facts so that we can help drive change.

“Fact: Only a tiny fraction of children who are sexually abused will ever tell anyone.

“Fact: Around 85% of children who are sexually abused are abused by someone in their circle of trust.

“Fact: Most people who sexually abuse children will never be caught or prosecuted.

“Although I am not at home, I stand to help educate the community and provide resources and information for victims and their families. No one should have to go through sexual abuse and we need to stand up and push for change. Thank you all for your continued love and support.”

Cain Velasquez’s next court date will be on May 6th.

Velasquez has been widely supported within and outside of MMA. The last two times he has appeared in court, so far, he has been greeted by throngs of supporters.
