Matt Brown takes on Bryan Barberena in a welterweight bout at UFC Columbus taking place (Saturday, Mar. 26, 2022) in Columbus, Ohio.
Round 1
Barberena throwing lots of strikes early on. Barberena connects with a leg kick. Brown is pressuring but Barberena is the one landing more. Brown foot sweeps Barberena and clinches him against the fence soon after. Barbarena reverses. However, Brown gets the body lock and takes him down. After being on top for a while, the fight returns to the feet. Brown lands a nice body kick. Brown is more active on the feet now. Barberena blocks a head kick. Barberena connects with a straight left. Brown with a knee to the belly before he trips Barberena again. Both fighters engage in the pocket against the fence to end the round.
Round 2
Brown lands a solid body kick. Barberena with a check right hook. Barberena is more active here as he puts the pressure on. Brown times a takedown well and gets him down. Barberena gets to his feet but remains clinched against the fence. Brown lands some elbows. They separate but remain engaged in the pocket. Barberena lands a big elbow which seems to have hurt Brown. However, Brown shoots a blast double. He transitions to the back and looks to get an armbar from a high mount. However, Barberena escapes and is now on top as he lands strikes. Brown gets to his feet and separates. However, Brown looks to have slowed down badly. Brown lands a big right though and follows it up with an elbow. Barberena is throwing back and ends the round strong.
Round 3
Both fighters continue where they left off in the second by trading shots. Brown gets another foot sweep and has Barberena’s head gripped. They’re clinched up against the fence. Brown has his back and starts to land some knees to Barberena’s back. They separate but both fighters look fatigued. Brown gets Barberena down with a blast double. However, Barberena gets to his feet right away and starts to unload on Brown. Brown eats some uppercuts but responds with a big right! Brown is tired but he’s still in this. Brown misses with a telegraphed spinning elbow and Barberena momentarily takes his back. They’re trading now with just under 30 seconds remaining. Barberena has Brown hurt and starts to unload. Brown survives and this goes the distance!
