Bobby Green Responds To Tony Ferguson’s Intentional Eye Poke Accusations: ‘It’s A Mark On My Body Of Work’

Bobby Green believes the narrative about the eye poke landed against Tony Ferguson being intentional took away from his win.

Bobby Green responded to Tony Ferguson’s accusations of an intentional eye poke during their UFC 291 fight.

On Saturday, July 29, Green and Ferguson fought on the UFC 291 main card. With six seconds left in the fight, ‘El Cucuy’ was submitted by an arm triangle, leading to his sixth consecutive loss in the Octagon. Although ‘King’ showcased an impressive performance, he wasn’t fully satisfied with the win.

Halfway through the first round, Green landed an accidental eye poke, which Ferguson accused him of doing intentionally. ‘King’ responded to the accusations during an interview on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani:

“Tony said I intentionally poked him. There’s a narrative that I intentionally poked him, and that threw his momentum off, and from there, the fight went my way. I disagree with that. I felt I was doing so much more than that the entire fight…What I’m saying is, if you argue with a crazy man, then you’re probably crazy, so I’m not gonna argue with him.”

Green continued:

“The other side of it, I feel like I’m sad. I’m sad because it’s a mark on my body of work. It saddened that he thinks it would go differently. It saddened me that it now puts all this different lack on my set of skills. I truly believe skills pay the bills.”

Green can’t seem to catch a break inside the Octagon this year. On April 22, the 36-year-old had a win against Jared Gordon overturned to no-contest due to an accidental clash of heads. Luckily for him, there were no discussions about his latest win against Ferguson being changed.

Bobby Green reveals the number one fighter he wants next

At 36 years old, Bobby Green probably won’t become a UFC champion. With that said, he’s an exciting fighter with plenty of gas left in the tank. During his recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Green revealed who’s on the top of his list to fight next:

“Number one on the list, I’m gonna go number one, [Renato] Moicano. He’s gonna get it. He said Bobby Green. He went out there and said my name. Bro, I heard you. I’m like the candy man, say my name, and I shall appear.”

Renato Moicano is the number thirteen-ranked UFC lightweight. In March 2022, Moicano lost a short-notice bout against Rafael dos Anjos by unanimous decision. Shortly after the loss, he called out Green, which didn’t materialize last year. The 34-year-old Brazilian is now coming off a win against Brad Riddell, so it’ll be intriguing to see if he’s still interested in the matchup.
