Ben Askren has offered his thoughts on one controversial mixed martial arts (MMA) coach who has been using some questionable training methods on his younger students. Yidikes Yom is training students out of the Lyon MMA Center in France. Yom has posted some of his training techniques with the young students on his Instagram, and has been under quite a bit of fire for it.

One such exercise includes Yom going around to students laid down on the mat and driving a big tire into their mid-sections. Another exercise includes having students stood on their hands upside-down against the cage while Yom goes to each and hits them again in the mid-section – this time with a pad. These are just a pair of many that have been shared on his Instagram page.

Ben Askren Reacts To Coach’s Controversial Training Exercises

Former ONE Championship title holder and ex-UFC star Ben Askren has taken to Twitter to react to the videos. To put it shortly – it doesn’t look like Askren is a fan of the French MMA trainer, finding it amusing that people actually signed their children up for his classes.

Askren has seemingly retired from MMA competition after suffering the first and only two losses of his career upon joining the UFC. Those being to Jorge Masvidal – the quickest knockout loss in UFC history – and Demian Maia. Shortly after, Askren needed hip-replacement surgery and made the decision to retire from MMA competition for the time being.

He did, however, compete in a professional boxing match against YouTube star Jake Paul which Askren lost via first-round TKO.

Several martial arts practices can be quite unique, with individuals such as Tony Ferguson and Joshua Fabia famous for their unconventional techniques. The dangers of such potentially harmful techniques should not be exposed to young children who don’t compete in fighting competitions.
