Top contenders collide!
Beneil Dariush and Arman Tsarukyan are set to headline UFC Austin in a key lightweight matchup, scheduled for five rounds of action.
Dariush was putting together quite the case for a title shot with eight wins in a row, but that streak came to an end in his latest fight against Charles Oliveira at UFC 289. Ranked at #4, Dariush may not be too far from a title fight though, especially if he is to beat a surging prospect like Tsarukyan.
Like his opponent, Tsarukyan also seeks to enter the title conversation at 155lbs. Since losing to a close decision to Mateusz Gamrot, the 27 year-old won back-to-back fights against Damir Ismagulov and Joaquim Silva.
The main event takes place from The Moody Center in Austin, Texas.
Round 1:
Dariush starts off with kicks to the body and to the leg of Tsarukyan. Tsarukyan lands a right hand, knee and then another right hand to stop Dariush in his tracks. Tsarukyan unleashes a flurry of punches on the ground before the referee calls it in.
Official result: Arman Tsarukyan defeats Beneil Dariush via KO (punches) in round 1 (1:04)
