Power Slap League has had a tough time finding fans since its inception, but Anthony Smith is one of the few who will openly preach their love for Dana White’s latest pet project.

Known for his occasional hot takes, the UFC light heavyweight contender recently declared his love for the much-mired slap-fighting competition. ‘Lionheart’ shared his true thoughts about the league while speaking with Din Thomas and Kelly Murphy on MMA on SiriusXM.

“I’ve been saying it for f*cking months. I cannot get enough of the Power Slap League. My body is ready for a pay-per-view. I will pay it, I don’t care how much it costs. I will prepay. I’ll prepay the next 10. I love it. I don’t know why. I can’t give you a reason. Maybe because I was there during the pilot of it and I seen it in person. I seen it. I got to meet these guys and I got to talk to them. You guys know what? Imagine what you think some of these guys would be like that are involved in the Power Slap League.

“Just think about it like, what kind of person you think would do it. That’s exactly how they are and I am a fan of chaos. These guys are goddamn maniacs. There’s something wrong with them. There’s something not right. They got a couple screws loose and they’re my type of people. I love them. I loved every second of it. I love talking to them. I support them. I know a lot of people hate it. I know a lot of people think it’s gross. I love combat sports. I don’t know if I’d even call it a sport. It might not be, but I love it.” Quotes via MMAMania

Nate Diaz Doesn’t Hold Back in Response to Anthony Smith’s Love for Power Slap

Some fans commended Anthony Smith for his honesty. However, most of them lambasted the perennial contender for supporting what some have called “sanctioned brain trauma.” Perhaps the most interesting comment came from former UFC icon Nate Diaz. Responding to Smith’s love for CTE-inducing blows to the head, the Stockton Samurai did not pull any punches.

“Anthony smith is a dumbf*ck”

Anthony Smith was previously scheduled to step back into the Octagon in March against Jamahal Hill. Things quickly changed when Hill was thrust into the main event of UFC 283 last month, capturing the light heavyweight championship in a dominant performance against former titleholder Glover Teixeira. Smith was the official backup for the main event clash but stepped on the scale four pounds overweight

Fortunately, Smith’s services were not needed and the originally scheduled headliner went off without a hitch.
