Anthony Smith is sticking up for UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Jones was recently filmed by a fan when he was attending a comedy show. “Bones” appeared to have had a few drinks prior to the show, and verbally sparred with a comedian. Many online had a field day with the video, but “Lionheart” isn’t happy about the invasion of privacy.
Anthony Smith said his friends would’ve never allowed him to be in that situation.
Anthony Smith Peeved With Fan Who Recorded Jon Jones
During a recent episode of the “Believe You Me” podcast, Smith admitted to UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping that he doesn’t like when fans record MMA fighters without permission outside of the Octagon.
“I felt awful for him,” Smith said. “How do you not have one goddamn friend to stick up for you? Like, there’s no way that my wife or any of my friends are gonna allow that to happen. I can’t go to a regular bar, and if any of my friends are around me and they see someone starting to record me, they’ll go snatch that phone, delete the video, and have a little bit of a f*cking talk. They just hate it, they want to be normal people, they don’t want all the recording and picture taking. Listen, Jon can do whatever he wants. He can go out, have a good time, drink. We’ve all been there, man you’ve got to travel with people that’ll look out for you.
“Like, if me and you were out and you’re blackout drunk, I’m not gonna take you to a comedy club in front of a bunch of people,” Smith said. “Like, ‘Hey, Mike, maybe we should go somewhere else.'”
While Smith may be able to contain such a situation if it happens to him, it’s difficult when you’re a known name and multiple fans begin pulling out their phones to record. Still, “Lionheart” believes Jones should surround himself with people who will have his best interest in mind.
