UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has offered Sean O’Malley some advice for his upcoming matchup against Petr Yan.
Aljamain Sterling Offers Advice To Sean O’Malley
It was recently announced that former 135-pound champion Yan will take on rising bantamweight star Sean O’Malley.
The action goes down on October 22 at UFC 280 on pay-per-view (PPV). It’s a fight that could very well determine the next challenger for the title.
Currently, the division is run by Aljamain Sterling, who owns two wins over Yan inside of the Octagon.
With that being said, he offered O’Malley some advice ahead of his clash with Yan during a recent interview with The Schmo. Here’s what he had to say:
“I don’t give a shit who wins that fight,” Sterling said. “I really don’t. But if there’s a piece of advice I could give to O’Malley, it’s footwork frustrates Yan.
“He has a hard time tracking down guys who have good footwork and aren’t just going to stand in front of him, waiting for the kill-shot. And using his range.
“And try not to get hit to the body because I think he’s a little frail and a little soft around the midsection.
“So try not to let Yan catch you with one of those straights because I’m telling you, it don’t feel too good.”
O’Malley is currently on a three-fight win streak, having finished all of his fights via knockout.
His last outing against Pedro Munhoz, unfortunately, ended in a No Contest after an accidental eye poke.
As for Yan, his last outing resulted in a split decision loss to Sterling. It was a title unification bout, in which Yan was an interim champion.
The only two losses of his UFC career came against Sterling. Now, O’Malley looks to change that on October 22
