Alexander Gustafsson Wants Interim Title Match While Cormier Plays Games With Brock Lesnar

Alexander Gustafsson Hopes Daniel Cormier Will Vacate UFC Light Heavyweight Title

Daniel Cormier has become the two-division champion after his Saturday night victory at UFC 226 over Stipe Miocic. The new champion will have to choose between Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight division. On the other side, Alexander Gustafsson isn’t much impressed with the circus that happened when Cormier called Brock Lesnar out.

It looks like DC gears up to defend the 265-pound title against the current WWE superstar and a guy known for the lust towards banned substances. But the winner of Alexander Gustafsson Vs Volkan Oezdemir, who is scheduled to fight at UFC 227 will be left out in cold unless the promotion decides to do something. (via MMAMania.com)

“They should do this fight for the interim title, it’s the No. 1 guy vs. the No. 2 guy,” Gustafsson told The MMA Hour. “If ‘DC’ makes up his mind and wants to come down, we can fight for the real title. He better let that belt go, he can’t sit on his throne and decide who’s fighting and who’s not. When I beat Volkan I’ll be the number one guy and the next fight is for the belt, that’s it.”

But as you probably know, charges versus Volkan Oezdermir are dropped. Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson have already fought once at UFC 192 when Cormier won in a very close-up game via controversial split decision. The Mauler has two consecutive victories over Jan Blachowitz and Glover Teixeira since that painful loss.

The promotion didn’t say anything related to Gustafsson’s fight. We don’t know whether Cormier versus Lesnar will become official or this is just a way to add some internet views into this sport. One thing is certain, UFC hasn’t been shy when it comes to strapping belts. But it all depends on the fighter, right? What do you think, will Alexander Gustafsson finally get a chance to fight for the title again?
