There is a new UFC flyweight queen in town and her name is Alexa Grasso. Grasso is fresh off of her submission victory over longtime champion Valentina Shevchenko. The Mexican-born fighter is now holding the belt and calling the shots at 125 pounds. Coming into the fight, Grasso was an underdog but proved that she had what it took to take out the reigning champion. Looking ahead Grasso has her eye on a possible fight in her home country of Mexico and knows an immediate rematch with Shevchenko could be inevitable.

When a champion is as dominant as Shevchenko was for so long it is likely that the UFC will give them a chance to earn back their belt. Grasso knows this and is open to the possibility. She knows that her win was not a fluke thing and believes she would get it done again in the rematch. Grasso spoke about this on The MMA Hour.

“She asked for that and yeah, I would love to fight again with her,” she said. “I know that she is super competitive. I know that she’s a perfectionist like me. So imagine a second fight, I am wondering what’s she going to do in the second fight. What is she going to try to do now? I’m excited, I’m truly excited for the second fight and I also know that people would love to see that because a lot of people say that it was a mistake from her and that it was a fluke. Of course, I don’t think it was a fluke because I trained him so much for that win. I think it’s going to be important to show everyone that I’m the champion.”

Alexa Grasso wants to be a part of the next Mexico card as a champion

Grasso is very proud of her heritage and now she joins Brandon Moreno and Yair Rodriguez as Mexican champions in the UFC. Because of having these three champions at one time, Dana White was teasing a move back to Mexico City. The date they wanted was in September for Independence Day, but it may be later than that. Whenever the event gets the green light Grasso will be ready.

“I don’t know the chances but I would love, I would love, I truly would love for this second fight can be in Mexico and I would love if this fight could be in Guadalajara,” she said.

Grasso is already back in the gym although she is not going hard yet. She is planning to continue working and getting ready for her first title defense, whether that be against Shevchenko or someone else. She says she is ready for only five-round fights from here on out.
