UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira revealed the shocking reason he and his ex-girlfriend recently separated.
Since making his UFC debut in December 2021, ‘Poatan’ has become one of the biggest superstars in MMA. Pereira’s new level of fame has led to fans keeping an eye on his personal life, which started a new chapter after parting ways with his girlfriend.
In late December, fans quickly realized that Pereira and his longtime partner, Merle Christine, had deleted all of their photos together on social media before unfollowing each other. It was later confirmed that they had broken up.
During an interview with FULL SEND MMA, Pereira explained that Christine had a husband that he didn’t know about while they were together:
“Well, it’s not even something I like to talk about too much. It’s a tight subject, but I met this person, and I believed in her, and I put her inside my house with my family. Eventually, I ended up finding out she was married. I had a conversation with her ex-husband a couple days ago, put everything to place, and came out with everything I thought it was.”
Pereira continued:
“I just want to leave this person in the past. I don’t even want to talk about too much. I want to delete her from my life, and I hope my fans has my support to delete her too. I want to leave her in the past, and I hope they help me to leave that in the past too.”

Alex Pereira plans to move forward and continue living his life
Alex Pereira’s previously mentioned comments led to Merle Christine sharing her side of the story, claiming she officially divorced before they met, and then threatened ‘Poatan’ with blackmail. Pereira responded to Christine’s reaction (shown below) before moving on.
Pereira had this to say during his interview with FULL SEND MMA:
“I’m going to do like I always did. I’m going to keep living my life. Some people they hurt, they stop, but I’m going to do what I always did. I’m going to continue living my life like I always did.”
Alex Pereira last fought in November 2023, defeating Jiri Prochazka by second-round knockout to become the UFC light heavyweight champion. It’s unclear who and when Pereira will fight next, but the most discussed rumors are a light heavyweight defense against Jamahal Hill or Magomed Ankalaev.
