Alex Pereira has issued a response to Israel Adesanya for his callout.

Reigning UFC middleweight king Israel Adesanya defended his title against Jared Cannonier in his latest outing at UFC 276. Although Adesanya cruised to victory successfully on the judges’ scorecards, there was a lot left to be desired after a lackluster showing. He went on to callout Pereira in his post-fight interview with a reference to the Disney family musical film Frozen.

Now, he’s received a response from the man himself.

In an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Alex Pereira talked about the infamous callout. As someone who grew up working at a tire shop to provide for his family, he finds it hard to relate to Adesanya on the same level.

“Look, number one, he spent a childhood watching cartoons. I spent my childhood working at a tire shop, trying to make money, and provide for my family for a better life. I didn’t watch those cartoons.

“Number two, I don’t speak English so when he comes and says, ‘oh, I’m going to leave him frozen, and all this kinda stuff, like Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Frozen, it makes no difference for me. I don’t watch no cartoons.”

Pereira bashes Adesanya’s performance at UFC 276

Pereira was not happy with the 185 lb king’s performance in his latest title defense. “Poatan” criticized the approach “Stylebender” took and suggested not setting expectations as he does.

“He’s befooling the people. He creates expectations like he said that he was going to make the last fight (against) Cannonier look easy and then, makes a show, talks a lot, and goes there with a bummer.

“For me, no, I just stay quiet. People say, ‘are you going to knock the guy out,’ I say, ‘I don’t know, let’s see.’ But people create the expectation because I stay quiet but then I knock people out. I shock everybody.

“No, he keeps saying ‘oh I’m going to freeze you, freeze this.’ For me, it makes no sense. I don’t even watch cartoons. What’s he going to do? Put me on the fridge? Let’s fight.”

Izzy is expected to face Pereira in his next outing.
