Adesanya Hints At Facing Romero with Paulo Costa Out
Grand opening, grand closing. Just when MMA fans thought they were going to see the rivalry between Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa play out, the tides have turned. News broke of Costa being out of the planned title fight due to having surgery on his injured bicep. So, if Adesanya can’t have Costa, he’s willing to take on an equally scarier opponent in Yoel Romero.
While Dana White announced Paulo Costa’s injury status, he mentioned that Costa would be out for 8 months. Also, in the same interview, White stated that the UFC is working on a new matchup for the Middleweight champion.
Adesanya took to social media to reveal exactly what the new potential matchup could be. In fact, he posted a screenshot of a conversation between himself and his head coach Eugene Bareman. In the message, the pair can be seen agreeing that Romero should get the nod.

Proving the Naysayers Wrong
Bareman tells Adesanya that Romero should be the choice. The reasoning for the selection was to prove to Adesanya’s haters that he could defend takedowns from an elite wrestler. Not only did Adesanya agree that Yoel was the correct choice, but he also welcomed the matchup. So much so, that he ended the conversation with “feed him to us!!”
No matter who Israel fights next, he knows that it will more than likely never be enough to satisfy everyone. With so many contenders in the middleweight division, Izzy will more than likely have to run through them all impressively before fans believe he is “battle-tested.”

Potential Replacements for Costa
Israel has also taken his fair share of shots of Romero in the past. This is no surprise because Adesanya usually tends to stir the pot with his confidence.
Will Romero be announced as Costa’s replacement? If not, the only other logical candidates would be Jared Cannonier or a rematch with Robert Whittaker.
Stay tuned as more fight information by Dana White is revealed.
