Frankie Edgar is a former four-time UFC Lightweight champion, and a former Reality Fighting Lightweight champion. He is also two-time UFC Featherweight runner-up and one-time UFC Lightweight runner-up. He is the only fighter who defeated BJ Penn three times.

Frankie Edgar has a very strange fighting style. He constantly pressures the opponent and delivers a combo of very quick punches which are followed by one strong punch in the end. His most dangerous punch is right overhand. Frankie also knows to throw low kicks and even spinning kicks. He doesn’t use knees much in the stand-up.
Frankie Edgar knows to trip his opponents and to slam them off the ground in a very attractive way. He has excellent takedowns. The Answer is known for attractive punches when his opponents are on the ground. He is not a submission specialist despite he is granted a BJJ black belt recently. However, his submission defense is outstanding.

The Road To The Top
Frankie Edgar had his MMA debut on July 10, 2005, versus Erik Uresk at Underground Combat League, and won the fight via TKO in the first round.
After a victory over Jim Miller at Reality Fighting 14 on November 18, 2006, The Answer joined the UFC with the score of 6-0.
Frankie Edgar – UFC Career
Frankie Edgar had his UFC debut at UFC 67 on February 3, 2007, versus Tyson Griffin, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Answer won the fight via unanimous decision and earned his first Fight Of The Night bonus.
His next rival was Mark Bocek at UFC 73 on July 7, 2007. Frankie won via TKO in the first round.
Frankie Edgar earned one more unanimous decision victory at UFC 78 on November 17, 2007, versus Spencer Fisher.
The Answer had his first UFC defeat from Gray Maynard at UFC Fight Night 13 on April 2, 2008. Maynard won via unanimous decision.

Frankie Edgar – UFC 112 Title Shot
The Answer faced BJ Penn at UFC 112 on April 10, 2010, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. After five rounds of a world-class predominantly stand-up fight, Frankie Edgar won the title bout via unanimous decision.
Frankie Edgar – Successful Title Defenses
All successful title shots were main events of the evening. Edgar and BJ Penn faced again at UFC 118 on August 28, 2010, in Boston, Massachusetts. The Answer won via unanimous decision again.
In the rematch with Gray Maynard at UFC 125, on January 1, 2011, the fight was called a draw via split decision. Maynard dropped Edgar few times in the first round, but Frankie survived. One referee gave victory to Edgar, one to Maynard, and one called a draw. The Answer retained the title. It was later pronounced for The Fight Of The Night and The Fight Of The Year.
Frankie Edgar fought Gray Maynard for the third time at UFC 136 on October 8, 2011, in Houston, Texas. Edgar won via spectacular KO in the fourth round, which was later pronounced for the Knockout Of The Night.
Frankie Edgar Vs. Benson Henderson
Frankie Edgar faced Benson Henderson at UFC 144 on February 26, 2012, in Saitama, Japan. Henderson won the fight via unanimous decision and Edgar lost the title, but he earned his fourth Fight Of The Night bonus.
The two faced again at UFC 150 on August 11, 2012, in Denver, Colorado. The fight was very tight this time but Benson Henderson won again, this time via split decision. The fighters fought both times in the main events of the evening.
After this fight, Frankie Edgar started competing in Featherweight division.
Frankie Edgar Vs Jose Aldo – Featherweight Title Shot
Edgar faced Jose Aldo for the first time in a title shot at UFC 156, on February 2, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the main event of the evening. Edgar was unlucky again and earned his third defeat in a row. Aldo won via unanimous decision, but both fighters were awarded Fight Of The Night bonus.
The Answer defeated BJJ black belt, Charles Oliveira, at UFC 162, on July 6, 2013, via unanimous decision, and he was rewarded his seventh Fight Of The Night bonus.
Frankie Edgar wrote history by defeating BJ Penn for the third time at The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale on July 6, 2014, via TKO in the third round, in the main event of the evening. The Answer was holding BJ’s neck and landing hook after hook on the ground before the referee stopped the fight.
The Answer surprised everybody when he won Cub Swanson at UFC Fight Night 57 on November 22, 2014, in the main event of the evening. He won via neck crank at 4:56 at the fifth round, setting a Featherweight latest finish record and earning his first Performance Of The Night award.
The main event of the evening at UFC Fight Night 66 on May 16, 2015, was reserved for the showdown between Urijah Faber and Frankie Edgar. The Answer won via unanimous decision after five rounds.
Chad Mendes Vs Frankie Edgar
Chad Mendes was Edgar’s opponent at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale, on December 11, 2015. Frankie surprised everybody when he knocked Chad Mendes out via left hook at 2:28 of the first round. This was the fastest victory of Edgar’s career, and he earned himself the second Performance Of The Night award.
Frankie Edgar Vs Jose Aldo 2 – UFC 200 Featherweight Title Shot
The rematch between these two was held at UFC 200, on July 9, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the main event of the evening. Despite Frankie was excellent again, Jose Aldo defeated him via unanimous decision. Like the last time, Jose Aldo was defending Edgar’s takedowns with ease and punishing him with tremendous and painful low kicks.
Frankie Edgar defeated Jeremy Stephens at UFC 205 on November 12, 2016, via unanimous decision.
The Answer was successful again versus Yair Rodriguez at UFC 211 on May 13, 2017. At the end of the second round, Yair was bleeding heavily and the doctor stopped the fight.
Edgar survived his first KO of the career in the fight against Brian Ortega at UFC 222 on March 3, 2018. The two clinched up at the end of the first round and Ortega crushed him with a strong right uppercut. Frank Mir believes Edgar made a mistake by accepting the fight.
Frankie Edgar is married to Renee Edgar, and they have three children – two sons (Francesco and Santino James), and a daughter – Valentina. The Answer was a ringside commentator in the third edition of Brave Combat Federation in Brazil.
