UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman believes he can take out Canelo Alvarez in a boxing match.

It’s no secret that Usman is looking for a massive fight. It also happens to be one that he can’t necessarily get inside the Octagon. Usman is at the top of the heap in the welterweight division in MMA but he’s been eyeing a boxing showdown with Canelo, who is widely regarded as the pound-for-pound best boxer today.

Kamaru Usman Plans To Stun The Boxing World

During an interview with TMZ Sports, Kamaru Usman was adamant about his desire to box Canelo Alvarez and expressed his belief that he can win (h/t MMAFighting.com).

“In 2022, I’m gonna shock the world. July, International Fight Week, I’m gonna fight Leon Edwards. God willing I get through Leon Edwards, September, Mexican Independence Day, I will stop Canelo Alvarez.

“Absolutely I see myself winning that fight. And that’s the thing that a lot of people fail to realize. A lot of people, because they think they can’t do something, they try to put that upon you. ‘Oh, you can’t do that. It can’t be done.’ Everything can’t be done until it’s done. So a lot of people are gonna say, ‘You can’t do it. No, he’s too good, he’s too skilled, too strong.’ Yeah, they said that about Tyron Woodley. He’s too big, he’s got knockout power, he’s fast, he’s explosive. What happened? I told him I was gonna dominate him for five rounds and I did that. I’m not gonna step in there if I don’t think I can get it done.”

Canelo has said that Usman is simply looking for a payday. With that said, he isn’t opposed to the idea.

As Usman mentioned, he’ll need to focus on his next title challenger before anything. Ariel Helwani was the first to report that Usman vs. Leon Edwards 2 is being targeted for July. This will be during International Fight Week.

As for Canelo, he’s going for the WBA Light Heavyweight Title. He’ll challenge Dmitry Bivol for the gold on May 7. If he gets past Bivol and if Gennady Golovkin can beat Ryota Murata on April 9, then Canelo vs. “GGG” 3 will take place.
