Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is now ranked by the WBC.

Ngannou made his boxing debut last month against Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia. He entered the fight as a massive betting favorite as many expected him to get smoked by Fury.

However, the fight was much closer as Ngannou even dropped Fury. When the final bell rang, many thought Ngannou would get the win, but Fury won a split decision.

Now, on Wednesday, the WBC held a meeting to update their rankings and revealed that Francis Ngannou is now the 10th-ranked heavyweight.

“Francis Ngannou did an outstanding job against the WBC Heavyweight Champion and the WBC Board of Governors has agreed to rank him as No. 10 in the Heavyweight division.”

Francis Ngannou Eyes Rematch With Tyson Fury

Since the loss, Francis Ngannou has been adamant he will box again and wants to rematch Tyson Fury.

Fury is set to face Oleksandr Usyk in February to unify the heavyweight division. It’s a massive fight and the hope for Ngannou is he can get the rematch with Fury after that fight.

“First of all, it’s too soon. Secondly, my focus as far as boxing is concerned is the rematch with Tyson, that is the most important thing for me right now. Everything else for boing comes after…  I would be willing to wait (for Fury to fight Usyk). I know that they are going to fight, they had a contract already, so they are going to fight sometime in February instead of December 23, which is my fault. I shouldn’t have cut him. He would’ve fought December 23, and maybe we would’ve run it back early next year,” Ngannou said to to TMZ Sports.

Whether or not the rematch will take place. But, with Francis Ngannou now being ranked 10th by the WBC it sets him up to get a big fight next time out whether it’s against Fury or not.
