Eddie Alvarez edges out Michael Chandler in another Fight of the Year performance at Bellator 106

Since Eddie Alvarez became a Blackzilian has anyone out there has informed Eddie Alvarez’s fade of his new pseudo-nationality? We’re not sure how that’s scientifically possible — verbal communication and understanding from a haircut, but we sure would love to see someone try to do it and put it on YouTube.

It was unfortunate that Michael Chandler vs. Eddie Alvarez I occurred on the same night as Shogun Rua vs. Dan Henderson. One of the greatest fights in MMA overshadowed by another fight that could also be considered one of the greatest fights in MMA. Tonight at Bellator 106, the UFC pulled off absolutely no counterprograming or social antics. They actually let Bellator put on a show without any broadcasting obstacle, and MMA fans finally got to see the level of brilliance Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez fight with.

This 2013 — there’s just entirely too many fights that could be considered ‘Fight of the Year’ — and Gilbert Melendez vs. Diego Sanchez is not one of them. See, aside from one drop late in the fight, Gilbert Melendez dominated every aspect of Diego Sanchez’s being. Tonight, we witnessed a razor-close decision that went in the favor of Eddie Alvarez — and it was highly entertaining.

We’re not sure why the Long Beach audience was booing, perhaps they wanted five more rounds of action. However, it’s safe to say that Bellator should put that fight on every month for at least eleven straight years.

It’s also important to note that since Eddie Alvarez won tonight, he’s contractually obligated to face Michael Chandler again. After that third fight, Eddie Alvarez will be released from his Bellator contract, regardless of the outcome of the rubber match.
