Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman successfully made weight for the UFC 286 title fight with a surprise fighter weighing in.

The much anticipated UFC 286 event is now just one day away. Welterweight champion Leon Edwards will be taking on former foe Kamaru Usman in his first-ever title defense. Edwards is very excited about this bout considering it is happening in his backyard in the O2 Arena in London. He plans on putting on a show for the hometown fans while Usman plans on retaking his lost title.

The Friday before an event is always one filled with a bit of nerve for fans and fighters alike. The athletes featured on the card must first make weight, sometimes called “the hardest battle.” On Friday morning all of the UFC 286 fighters weighed in with one surprise edition. Colby Covington is in London and was on the scale as a backup fighter for the title fight.

Colby Covington made weight as a backup for the UFC 286 welterweight title fight

The UFC had not formally announced that Covington would be on hand as a backup. During the press conference this week both title fight participants were asked about the possibility of this happening, and neither knew anything about it. Then surprisingly Friday morning, in walked Covington on weight and ready to fill in if needed. Both Edwards and Usman made their weight successfully at 170 pounds and barring any emergencies or unforeseen events happening overnight Covington will not be needed.

In addition to Edwards, Usman, and Covington all other fighters made weight except for Malcolm Gordon who missed the flyweight limit of 125 pounds.
