Ciryl Gane is all good if he never gets a rematch with Francis Ngannou.
One year after defeating Gane in a closely-contested bout, the UFC Heavyweight Champion would part ways with the company, leaving his title for the taking. ‘Bon Gamin’ will take on the returning Jon Jones for the vacant heavyweight championship in the main event of UFC 285 on March 4th.
Gane Says Ngannou Made The Correct Choice
In classic Nate Diaz fashion, Gane was ‘not surprised’ by Ngannou’s departure from the UFC. The Frenchman ultimately believes Ngannou made the right choice in the next chapter of his career.
“I think when you are on the position and you want to do the war with the UFC and you stay in your position like he did… yes, I was not surprised about his decision,” Gane told Middle Easy. “Maybe he want to stop his career in MMA and just want to go to make money in the boxing [ring]. This is a choice and this is not the wrong choice for me. That’s correct.”
Revenge Not Neccessary, Gane Just Wants The Belt
While Gane’s only blemish on his record is to Ngannou, he isn’t disappointed that he may never get the chance to avenge the loss.
“A lot of people told me, ‘you want the revenge against Francis now, no?’ I said, no,” Gane said with a laugh. “I just want the belt.”
“So, I’m okay with this defeat. It was not a ridiculous defeat. It was really close. So no, I’m not like that. This doesn’t make me [have] some pain. You see, I’m okay with that. I’m really okay with that.”
Ciryl Gane has made peace with his past loss to Francis Ngannou and looks toward the future: a fight with Jon Jones for the vacant title next month.
